WHY I WEAR ROSE COLOURED GLASSES - LITERALLY.

Festival Season is Upon Us.

This week I picked me up a stylish pair of Festival glasses. The pretty pink orange Hue of the lens has me feeling #hippievibes.

Most unfortunately... this mama ain't headed to no festivals this year.

My reason for picking up these bad boys is far less cool. Although, from a scientific standpoint, perhaps one of the coolest things you could do.

You see, I have an obsession with a good night's sleep.

My whole life I was a terrible sleeper. When my kids were babies I remember waking up for every night feeding, and staying awake for literally hours. I was a complete mess. I had trouble falling asleep. I had trouble staying asleep.

I went through the motions of resenting my kids, and blaming my husband for my fatigue, before finally getting my head outta my butt and taking control of my situation (you can read about how I did that here).

And things are miles and miles better than they were. But here's the thing:
My son is 2, and still waking in the night. My dog is 18, and waking in the night. My cat puts her butt in my face in the night. And so,

I am forever looking for the best habits and rituals that I can follow to ensure that I get a solid night's rest every night, no matter the circumstances.

I'm a sleep-hacker y'all. And the hack for this month is with these pretty little glasses. Here's the theory:

Glasses with a red, orange or yellow hue block the spectrum of blue light that you can see. Blue light, in case you haven't heard, is the absolute thief of a good night's sleep. Blue spectrum light blocks the release of a very very important hormone called Melatonin.

Melatonin is the magical hormone that allows your body to fall asleep. Melatonin helps you stay asleep. Melatonin helps you go back to sleep after all the night wakings. It's basically the most important thing in a mom's tool kit.

We need this sh*t.

The ultimate blocker of Melatonin? You've most definitely heard, or can probably guess. Its the tech (dammit! It's always the tech!). The screens on your TV, tablets, computers, and cell phones block Melatonin and trick your brain into thinking you're living a never ending day.

But you know what else? Blue light is emitted from our light bulbs (oh snap).

It used to be super trendy for people to have yellow tinted light in their homes. Now the trend has turned to the clear white light which is on the blue Spectrum. So the more lights you keep on in your house in the evening, the less chance your body has a receiving the natural cue that the day has come to an end and it's time to release the good feels that help you go to sleep.

What do you do about it?

Well, we've implemented a number of things in our home. Especially now that the sun is out for longer, we do our best to not turn the lights on in the evening. We try to operate by Lamplight and let our eyes adjust to the darkness. Which I have to say is HUGE for me. I have forever been someone who had every single light in the house on. I also do my best to follow a no screens after 8:30 p.m. rule. And now, for the days when we decide to stay up and watch a movie, or I've got something for work that really and truly can't wait until tomorrow, I've got a new tool.

Rose Colored Glasses.

There are big fancy-schmancy pairs of these blue light filtering glasses that you can buy online. But as I was shopping for my daughter's birthday present at Ardene in the mall, I came across these glasses for like $12. Not sure how the schmancy ones could be better... So, for the last week, I've been putting them on at 8 p.m. I go about my business blocking the blue light. I'll tidy the kitchen with them on, I'll do a little scrolling on my phone (for many reasons I still aim to disconnect from the scrolling by 8:30) and then I'll read my book with them on.

And you know what? I've been sleeping! Last night I was woken up three times from the kids and animals, and every time I was back to sleep in a Flash.

Is it a placebo? Maybe. And that's not a problem for me. In 2016 a dude had a placebo KNEE SURGERY that worked. Like, there is a ton of power in just believing.

Beyond that, is it worth it?

$12 = Heck yes.
